FAQ #2: Why not let everyone have individualized funding?

This is something new for the government and you, so the government is experimenting with different ways to get the money to you and help you choose your own support and services. It is an exciting opportunity for anyone who decides to participate in this project. It means the government is trusting you to work with them and make responsible decisions. It means the government is trusting the San Diego Regional Center to work with you and help you, but let YOU decide. This is a lot of responsibility! But the result is you have choice and control over your life!

Maybe we will try some things that don’t work the first time. We will all have to work together to make sure you receive the help you want and how you want it. Remember, this is just a way to handle the money part. The goal is for YOU to live your life the way you want to.

A lot of good things that people want in their lives don’t cost money. But they still need help to find these places, or friends or things to do. We have an idea of how you can get this help, both with the paid and the non-paid things you want for your life. This project has some people who are especially trained. They are called Service Brokers.
